Screen Capture

What is a screen capture?
A screen capture is a snapshot of what is on your screen at a particular moment in time. There are two types of screen capture:

  • Whole Screen - everything on the screen is included in the capture.
  • Active Window - only the window that is being used (such as a word document) is included in the  capture.

Why perform a screen capture?
There are a few reasons to capture a screen image:

  • Capture non-printable screen items such as error messages, or other prompts
  • Capture both the text in a program and the program window for display in a tutorial.
  • Capturing the settings of a program to either print or save for future reference
  • And on and on...

How do I perform a screen capture?
In windows, a screen capture can be performed by pressing the print screen key (labeled 'prtscn' or 'Print scrn' on right side of keyboard, usually above the direction and home/end/delete keys) for a whole screen capture. An active window capture can be performed by pressing the ALT and the print screen button at the same time.

What next?
You can go into word, paint, an email, or just about any other program that you use to edit pictures and select paste from the Edit Menu to paste the image into your program! {mos_fb_discuss:11}
